Like life itself, investing is often about trade-offs. It’s hard to be an athlete and an academic at the same time. It’s tough to excel as a parent and professional simultaneously. And, traditionally, it has not been easy to earn higher investment returns without also taking on higher risk.
Enter the Kipling Enhanced Strategies - three investment funds that change the normal trade-offs between risk and return as understood by modern portfolio management theory. They make it possible to capture the growth and income potential of the market with less volatility.
We are pleased to announce that, following years of strong and steady results, all three Kipling Enhanced Strategies have been ranked first quartile for performance over every time period since inception(1) by Morningstar, the nation’s leading independent rating agency, placing them among the best-performing funds in Canada.
How we do it
The Kipling Funds benefit from a combination of factors, including a disciplined, proven and repeatable investment process, a focus on owning fewer securities with higher potential, and an alternative investment structure known as 130/30.
The 130/30 structure allows the portfolio managers to utilize up to 30% leverage and short selling to place bets not only on the securities that they believe will increase in value, but also those that they expect to decline in value. This gives the funds unique resiliency and profit potential even when markets are down.
Here’s a snapshot of the funds:
Kipling Strategic Income Fund is ideal for investors with a low risk profile who wish to earn dependable income. It makes a great complement to both equity holdings and more conventional fixed income holdings.
Kipling Global Enhanced Dividend Fund is designed for investors with a low-to-medium risk profile and a desire to cautiously grow their capital. It offers exposure to diversified global equities and quarterly dividend income.
Kipling Enhanced Growth Fund is a good choice for investors with a medium risk profile who wish to maximize their long-term capital growth. It allows them to participate in high-growth opportunities around the world.
Despite the strength of each individual Kipling Fund, the real magic happens when the funds are blended together. Our experience shows that investors who own a custom mix of all three funds are able to find their personal sweet spot - a portfolio that delivers the return potential they want at a level of risk that reflects their personal goals and preferences.

The Morningstar Absolute Quartile Rankings are compiled by sorting the funds by returns relative to the mutual funds within the same peer group and range from 1 to 4 for all time periods covered and can change monthly. The top performing 25% of funds in each fund category are assigned a ranking of 1, the next 25% a 2, etc.
Morningstar Ratings reflect performance as of February 29, 2024 and are subject to change monthly. The ratings are calculated from a fund’s 3, 5 and 10-year returns measured against 91-day Treasury bill and peer group returns. For each time period the top 10% of the funds in a category get five stars. The Overall Rating is a weighted combination of the 3, 5 and 10-year ratings. For greater detail, see www.morningstar.ca.
